Gendering Constitutional Change in Northern Ireland: Participation, Processes and Power

Constitutions reflect national values and set out the foundational principles of governance. Traditionally, those have been male-defined. As such, constitutions often form basis ‘gendered state’ with all its attendant inequities. Feminist constitutionalism challenges wider domain constitution-making to consider questions relating gender inequality in constitutional debate, design redesign. Through a case study approach, this article utilises feminist lens examine on-going debates Northern Ireland that deepened by Brexit. Any new arrangements on island will drive multiple transformations social, legal economic life impact lives women. Subsequently, explores dynamics current contribute broader literature transitions deeply divided societies.
